The “Communities in Charge” program is a market acceleration initiative in California, funded by the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program. Implemented by CALSTART in collaboration with GRID Alternatives and Tetra Tech, the program provides up to $30 million in funding incentives to support the installation of Level 2 EV chargers across the state.
With up to $30 million in funding incentives, the program supports the installation of Level 2 EV chargers across the state, especially in multi-unit dwellings (apartments) and community gathering places (schools, religious institutions, parks, and libraries).
By expanding access to public charging—particularly for residents without home charging—the program encourages the adoption of zero-emission vehicles, reduces greenhouse gas and air pollutants, and helps improve air quality across communities.
